There are many ways to “stage” your site while you make the transition into your new theme. If you’re not sure how to migrate or stage your site please contact your hosting company. Many hosts provided these services to clients.

If you are interested in a simplified approach, you can follow our tutorial below.

PLEASE NOTE: this method does not make your site inaccessible to users from all pages. Our simplified method locks your homepage down so users can’t access your menu items but will not block people 100% off your site. There are additional plugins you can install to block users temporarily from your site but we will not go over that in this tutorial.

  1. Create a new page and name it something similar to”coming soon
  2. Open the Divi visual builder
  3. Select “Choose a premade layout” from the available options
  4. Select the “Coming Soon” page layout.
  5. Make any desired changes to the page and click “save” to update your page
  6. Open the Theme Customizer from the WordPress Dashboard
  7. Select the “Homepage Settings” tab
  8. Click “A Static Page” radio button
  9. Select “Coming Soon” for your static homepage from the dropdown list
  10. Click “Publish” to save all your changes
  11. Close out of the theme customizer by selecting the “X” icon on the top left bar
  12. To make changes to your home page you will need to access it manually for example, “yoursite.com/home”
  13. When you are finished with all your site changes simply repeat steps 6-11 to switch the static page back to your original homepage “/home”

PLEASE NOTE: The landing page only blocks users on your homepage. To block users across your site you can download third-party plugins to accomplish your goals or contact your hosting company.
